Capturing the Moment

Most of the time when people think about movies and commercial production, they see it as super planned. Shot lists, producers, directors, cinematographers, and so on. But sometimes we forget how important and impactful it can be to have the skill of capturing the special moments.

We are working with a client capturing events in the world’s most beautiful beaches. We don’t have a shot list. We don’t have any preconceived notions on what we need to capture. All we have is an itinerary, our cameras, and experience watching for the unexpected. Weddings and those sorts of events can be a good experience for this, but the way I see it is, you need to go in like it’s your first time experiencing this kind of event. Know that everyone is there to have a good time, so they are pretty easy to talk to, as long as you present in a friendly manner. Don’t be afraid; be curious.

See the things that normal people see but from a different angle. This sign is something I have seen hundreds of times, but this night it looks different. The flashing police lights mixed with the fireworks lights are beautiful. I grabbed my phone for this shot and just got low and saw it a little differently. Boom, magic.
Don’t ever start seeing your projects or repeat projects as boring; that’s when your creativity dies.
